Demo blog for my themes

Well, I'm late at this. Nevertheless, following the popular trend among hobbyist wordpress theme makers, I too have setup a demo blog for wordpress themes designed by me.

Now, folks visiting my blog for themes can view the demo of those here itself. Plenty of updates coming up for all the themes I've designed. So, keep checking back.

Live Search for wordpress

Added Live Search plugin for Wordpress from Jagath's plugin page. Interestingly, the plugin author is from the sub-continent. :)

This plugin is an AJAX script that enables 'live' search on the wordpress. I'm yet to take a peak into the code of this one, but it was pretty easy to set up and get it running.

Check out this nice plugin on the right side bar of this blog under "Live Search".

Sampada

First, it was the Kannada Community on Live Journal. Next, the orkut community for Kannada. Later, Kannada wikipedia.

Now, its Sampada. God knows when the craziness is going to stop. But, you can stop by and enjoy the articles on Sampada and scribble something as well. The initiative's been doing really well and we've got some nice folks participating.

Become a part of it and spread the word around. And yeah, its a non-profit initiative. :)

Video - Aishwarya on David Letterman Show

Quite a lot has appeared about this on newspapers and magazines that we all know very well about it :) So, I'll just keep this to mentioning the URL to reach the video of the show (for those who missed it):
Aishwarya on David Letterman show - Video (Opens in a new window)

(Aishwarya talks, and manages to dodge some boulders of words thrown at her by David Letterman. Watch out for the part where Aishwarya shoots back at David asking him "How did you get into doing this?", for the question on how aish got into movies)

Simcity for Linux

Loki games - simcity 3000 unlimited

Loki games (nonexistent now) has a ported version of SimCity 3000 Unlimited for Linux. The Windows version of it was very popular. I remember sitting hours together building a simulated City, laying a bit thick on finding solutions for the disasters and problems that surfaced on the simulation ;) Thank goodness, I never had my own computer then... otherwise, "hours" would easily have been "days" - such is the addictiveness of this game.

Recently, there have been a multitude of games that not only run efficiently on Linux, but are as good as the Windows versions. The last one I tried was a demo of Doom (the latest version I guess), and it worked real smooth. The same is with Quake, America Army Operations (all run pretty well on Linux). Ubuntu itself comes with a range of lovely arcade games (not by default, one has to download from its universe, multiverse repository). Maybe the coming days would really see Linux as a choice for desktop in day to day usage. :)

Sabotage

Sabotage

Watched Alfred Hitchcock's "Sabotage" today and became an instant fan of it! ;) The plot is set in London, and the movie is a thriller, suspense, as are the trade mark Hitchcock movies.
But the most striking thing was the pace of the movie and the fact that there were absolutely no negative or dull moments. Each frame of the movie is well thought of, and to say the master piece dates back to 1936, for the way the screenplay is handled, one could only watch it with awe!

Sylvia Sidney who plays Mrs. Verloc is beautiful. :) In a scene where she gets her hand on the knife to kill her husband, the tumult, angriness and uncertainity in her mind is well picturised. The pace sets up the real thriller. The scene where the boy Steve Verloc carries the package, without knowing about the bomb inside it is tremendously thrilling. A 'must watch' if you haven't watched this movie.

It would be nice to see such movies being made in Bollywood or kannada. (From the bollywood movies relatively of this era that I've watched, only gurudutt movies stand out as such master pieces). But god knows when our people would come out of all the animated dancing and vulgar comedy that show up in present day films. :P

Now, for the spoiler (from wikipedia)...

Sabotage is a 1936 British film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which tells the story of Carl Verloc (played by Oscar Homolka), a terrorist from an unnamed European country, who conducts a series of attacks in London. As the story develops, his wife, played by Sylvia Sidney, realized that her husband is behind the attacks that are terrorizing the city. When her younger brother, Stevie (played by Desmond Tester) is killed, unknowingly carrying a bomb for Verloc, Mrs Verloc joins forces with Sergeant Ted Spencer (John Loder, who replaced Robert Donat who was too ill from asthma to play the part) from Scotland Yard to stop her husband and end the bombing spree before another major attack.
