Surprise, surprise!

While checking out the [:http://ind.cricinfo.com/db/STATS/ODIS/TEAM/ODI_HIGH_TEAM_TOTALS.html|record for highest ODI Scores], there was a [:http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/netherlands/content/story/252357.html|surprise in store today].

If you too had not heard of it until now, [:http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/netherlands/content/story/252358.html|read this] for the clear picture. It is Sri Lanka (and not South Africa off its recent heroics against Aussies) that holds the record for highest ODI total [:http://content-ind.cricinfo.com/netherlands/content/story/252357.html|back again] (they were the record holders from [:http://ind.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/WORLD_CUPS/WC96/WC96-MATCHES/GROUP-A/SL_KENYA_WC96_ODI28_06MAR1996.html|96 World Cup] to 2005/2006).

Comments

Namaste Nadig,
Though Srilanka scored 440+ it for record per say as they scored against the minnows (like how they did it the 1996 worldcup). SA's record holds more validity as they scored against mighty Ozs.

well, first off, thanks for the comment! I've recently completely ignored the ease that has to exist on the blog to place comments. But thanks for taking your time out to register.
(Note to self: The blog needs some attention and lots of cleanups!)

And yes, as far as the record is concerned, it is sensible to say that SA's record was far better than the one by SL ;)

But the ICC's weird ways around things are rather amusing. They give International status to matches like these with minnows (which shouldn't be the case if they want interest in Cricket to survive). Looking at what happened in yesterday's W.I vs Zim match, one would've said that Cricket has been at its all-time worse!
