Traditional TuLu house

Traditional TuLu house, originally uploaded by hpnadig.

A Traditional Tulu house. A rather square complex with ample space for storage all around. The pillars are made of wood. There are usually 4 doors, one on each side of the square complex. The roof is of Mangalore tiles.

The inner square is an open area - a place often utilized to dry stuff the natural way with sunlight.

Taken during the visit to PilikuLa kaMbaLa. This house was on display as a museum convert. There were paintings on display too.

Reminds me of the traditional houses in kerala,on the back waters, with the rice granaries in the centre of the house. You might find a visit to Dakshinachitra in Madras interesting...
